Highway 18 Fully OPEN 1/21/22!

UPDATE: Jan 19 – Highway 18 full opening!

Caltrans has announced Highway 18 opening (although not fully complete, sufficient to open) this Friday 1/21/22 at an unspecified time.

UPDATE: Jan 7 @ 3pm – Highway 18 graduated opening!

In an article put out yesterday, January 6, Supervisor Rutherford announced, “Great news! Caltrans plans to reopen the upbound lanes on Highway 18. This is scheduled to take place at 3PM today (January 7, 2022). Pilot cars will guide travelers up and down the mountain during this phased reopening.”
A special thank-you goes out to Caltrans District 8 that deserves all the credit. Their team did (and continues to do) incredible work. We are all grateful for there extra efforts put out for the residence of the mountain communities.

ORIG: Sinkhole under 4-lane has closed Highway 18 until further notice

Thursday 12/23/2021 evening, a portion underneath the four lane section of Highway 18 washed out (no injuries) & with continued rain/snow coming will remain as such until CalTrans can evaluate further. Instructions are to use Highway 330 and cut off in Running Springs, or Highway 138 coming from Hesperia side for access in/out of the mountains area.

Given those longer 2-lane access points heavy traffic is likely between visitors & residents, so plan accordingly.
